The following versions: 3.8 and 3.4 are the most frequently downloaded ones by the program users. The program lies within Education Tools, more precisely Science. The Octave Wiki has instructions for installing Octave on macOS systems. Octave is also available in third-party package managers such as Homebrew and MacPorts. Octave.app is a project to bundle and distribute GNU Octave as a native Mac GUI application. This makes it easy to install and use GNU Octave on Mac.

The open-source software is free to download, making it a friendly alternative to MatLab. Octave is not meant to replace your production-ready Java, Python, or C. Instead, it will help you test out your idea (or intuition) without having to write lots of code. If you prefer a direct download, download Octave here. Step 1: Install Homebrew.

We are not an official GNU project, or part of GNU Octave. We are a rag-tag band of misfits who’ve written a tool to download and build GNU Octave and its dependencies and bundle them as a Mac app.

Our goal is to make ready-to-use Octave.app installers available to the public.

  • AquaTerm is a Mac OS X grahics renderer. It allows command line applications written in ObjC, C, FORTRAN, Lisp, Perl or Python to display vector graphics, text and images using a simple API. Adapters for gnuplot, PGPLOT, and PLplot exists as well.
  • To install GNU Octave, an Open Source Matlab clone under Mac OS X, you will need to install fltk and GraphicsMagick as specific versions first. To do so, install both using the following commands: brew install -HEAD fltk.

Download

All Octave.app releases are available on the Downloads page.

Octave For Mac

When running Octave.app for the first time, instead of just double-clicking it, you will need to right-click on it and choose “Open”, so you get a dialog asking you if you really want to run it, since it’s from an unidentified developer. This is because the app is not signed. This is something we’re working on.

If you’re feeling adventurous, beta and pre-release versions can be found on the Developer Downloads page.

Requirements

  • macOS, version 10.11 El Capitan or newer
  • MacTeX, if you want the help command to work properly for Octave Forge packages.

License

Most of Octave.app’s code is GPL, with the exception of its Homebrew formula files, which are BSD 2-Clause License.

GNU Octave itself is GPL. Its dependencies are available under various FLOSS licenses.

Alternate Installations

Installing with Homebrew Cask

Octave For Mac App

To install Octave.app using Homebrew Cask:

Installing directly with Homebrew

NOTE: This is not the normal way to install Octave.app! Unless you have a particular reason for doing this, please just download and install the regular Octave.app distribution.

If you want to build and install our Qt-enabled Octave build via Homebrew instead of using the Octave.app distribution, you can do this by setting up Homebrew as normal, and doing the following:

If you have a previous octave build from the regular Homebrew or dpo/openblas formulae, you need to unlink it first with brew unlink octave.

Prerequisite

You might need homebrew-cask; if you don't have it, refer to this section.

Installation

Homebrew Octave.app

Octave.app is a project to distribute GNU Octave as a native Mac GUI application, to make it easier to install and use Octave on macOS. Note this is not an official GNU or GNU Octave project. As this distributes a compiled version of Octave, installation will be much faster.

To install using homebrew-cask run:

Homebrew official

You can also install Octave from the official Homebrew source using the method below.

Install octave from core Homebrew (which is available by default):

Octave For Macos

Note: If brew complains about not having a formula for Octave, the following command should fix it:

The command below upgrades Octave and its dependencies to the latest Homebrew-supported versions:

Octave has many dependencies which will be downloaded and installed prior to Octave. The originals season 1 complete 1080p download torrent. The entire installation process can take a few hours if you are compiling from source.

Note: On Snow Leopard or earlier, Octave requires an X server. You can download one from the XQuartz project.

You might find that you need to add:

to your octaverc file, normally located at /usr/local/share/octave/site/m/startup.

Supported platforms¶

CVX is supported on 64-bit versions of Linux, Mac OSX, and Windows. We generally aim tosupport versions of MATLAB that are no more than five years old. On the Mac, however, the window is shorter due to operating system changes that necessitate the use of evennewer versions of MATLAB. In generally, we strongly recommend that you use the latestversion of MATLAB that you can obtain.

If you browse the source code, you may find indications of supportsupport for Octave with CVX. However:

Note

Unfortunately, for average end users (this means you!), Octavewill not work. Please do not waste your time by trying!

Mac Os Catalina

We do not have an estimate for when Octave will be officiallysupported. We add this here to warn you not to interpret the mentionsof Octave in the code as a hidden code to try it yourself!

Note

Octov Mac Os Catalina

If you wish to use CVX with Gurobi or MOSEK, they must be installed and accessiblefrom MATLAB before running cvx_setup. See below for more details.

Octave Mac Os Sierra

  1. Retrieve the latest version of CVX from the web site. You can download the package as either a .zip file or a .tar.gz file.

  2. Unpack the file anywhere you like; a directory called cvx will becreated. There are two important exceptions:

    • Do not place CVX in Matlab’s own toolbox directory.
    • Do not unpack a new version of CVX on top of an old one. We recommend moving theold version out of the way, but do not delete it until you are sure the newversion is working as you expect.
  3. Start Matlab. Do not add CVX to your path by hand.

  4. Change directories to the top of the CVX distribution, and run the cvx_setupcommand. For example, if you installed CVX into Cpersonalcvx onWindows, type these commands:

at the MATLAB command prompt. If you installed CVX into~/MATLAB/cvx on Linux or a Mac, type these commands:

The cvx_setup function performs a variety of tasks to verify that yourinstallation is correct, sets your Matlab search path so it can find all of the CVXprogram files, and runs a simple test problem to verify the installation.

  5. In some cases—usually on Linux—the cvx_setup command may instruct you tocreate or modify a startup.m file that allows you to use CVX without havingto type cvx_setup every time you re-start Matlab.
