The RAM limit in the Macintosh design was 4 MB of RAM and 4 MB of ROM, because of the structure of the memory map. This was fixed by changing the memory map with the Macintosh II and the Macintosh Portable, allowing up to 8 MB of RAM.
Memory (RAM) and storage (hard disk / SSD) are not related to one another.
- In Mac OS X 10.2.x and later, click the arrow to the left of 'Memory:' so that it is facing down. In Mac OS X 10.0.x and 10.1.x, from the pop-up menu, select Memory. In the 'Preferred size:' field, enter the amount of memory you'd like to allocate to the application. The 'Minimum size:' field indicates the amount of free RAM needed to permit.
- However, in today's preview of the upcoming OS X Mavericks at WWDC, Apple announced a new memory management feature that brings aspects of RAM Doubler back to the Mac OS.
That Mac has plenty of available storage. If you are running low on memory Activity Monitor can be used to identify the memory-intensive processes causing that warning.

Once you determine the memory-intensive process or processes, a solution can be provided. WIthout that information it is premature to draw any conclusions, but the number one explanation for that warning is having inadvertently installed adware. This article details the main differences between the Memory-Map 6 application when run under a Windows environment and a Mac OS environment.
Please be aware that the Mac version of Memory-Map 6 is an upgraded version of the Memory-Map iOS app rather than a direct 'port' of the Memory-Map PC application. As such some features may have slightly less options or work in slightly different ways between the PC and Mac applications.
